The most iconic images in history, even the ones that weren't taken with a Leica, were taken because of the Leica.

Summer Picnic in Thiels, NY

August 23, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

A picnic on a nice summer day hosted by Sud Barik and family at their residence in Thiels, NY. Two beautiful children kept my M9 busy: 2-year old Dominic and 18-month old Chloe. It may had been a gorgeous day for outdoor fun but the light was harsh and contrasty. It called for shooting technique I learned from Cliff Mautner. All shots taken without flash or reflectors using Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar at f/1.5 (for shaded shots) to 2.8 (for open shade shots).

Happy 68th Mama Auring

An advanced birthday celebration for Mama with CREW ad Gemma at Costanera, our favorite Peruvian restaurant in Montclair, NJ. Taking pictures inside the restaurant without flash is tough; the place is really dark. All pictures taken with Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar at f/1.5. When shooting indoor under artificial light, it is important to set the white balance in order not to underexpose unnecessarily the image. RAW processing done using DxO Optics Pro 8, Viveza 2, and Perfect Photo Suite 7.

ISO 1600 at 1/60s

Uncle Patrick

Uncle Patrick is Mama Auring's younger brother from Keyport, NJ. They have not seen each other for years so this was a much awaited reunion. We all quickly warmed up to Uncle Pat. He has many interesting and colorful stories and really love telling them. All pictures taken Leica M9 and 50mm Summicron at f/4 using a single mono strobe bounced on the wall.

I use two types of B&W: monochromatic B&W and sepia-toned. The following photos are from JPEG files captured using the IPhone 4s camera. Post-processing and B&W conversion were done in DxO Optics Pro 8.
